SwiftModule - Tiny Production Ready Modules

SwiftModule-PX

SwiftModule measures just 60mm x 40mmSwiftModule is a family of low-power, high performance production-ready system-on-modules supplied with comprehensive production-quality Board Support Packages (BSP) for Windows CE 6.0, and also Linux (SwiftModule-OM only). SwiftModule-PX is based on a Marvell PXA320 microcontroller, and SwiftModule-OM uses TI's OMAP3530 family micros.

When you base your product on SwiftModule the most time-consuming and expensive part of the hardware design is already done for you, as is the equally costly porting of the operating system to the hardware, enabling you to get to market in a matter of weeks.

All that is required to finish your product is a custom baseboard, either based on the schematics and libraries that we supply, or created by us, based on your "shopping list" of connectors and any additional interfaces. Plug in the module, configure and install the BSP (we can also do that for you if you prefer), load your application and you're done.

And because at Direct Insight we understand all about platform-based design, having brought dozens of products to market via this route, we can provide the support you need to complete the process without too many hold-ups. And as a Microsoft Windows Embedded Gold Partner and Authorised Training Provider you can be sure that if this is your first Windows Embedded project, we have the skills you need to help you along.

SwiftLite-PX development system and production baseboardSwiftModule-PX incorporates a number of special features to answer the needs of the system-on-module user, including rapid boot capability thanks to a BinFS file system implementation. A user-defined splash-screen makes it easy to brand your product without delving into the platform configuration.

On-module Ethernet, wi-fi, audio and touch reduce the baseboard requirement in most cases to little more than connectors, while a Flash File System makes the unused area of the large standard NAND device available for data storage, in addition to supported removable storage, including USB stick, SD and CF cards.

A large touch screen, directly connected to the PXA320's on-chip display controller means that the development setup closely emulates the final product, and LVDS support allows a remotely connected display to be easily effected.

Technical Details:

SwiftModule-PX measures just 60mm x 40mm (2.4"  x 1.6") and is built around a Marvell PXA320 (or PXA300) XScale microcontroller running at up to 806MHz, and providing a wide range of on-chip interfaces. We add up to 256MB of SDRAM, and up to 2GB of NAND Flash as well as power management, Ethernet*, audio, touch and Wi-Fi* to complete the system-on-module. Built-in interfaces include USB device and host, UARTs, SD/MMC, CompactFlash, I2S, AC'97, SSP and 800x600 display controller.

Application Support

Additional interfaces such as GPS modules, Analog-to-Digital conversion, GPRS/3G modems, CAN-bus are frequently required to complete the product. To facilitate this we have created a library of reference extensions to the baseboard design, complete with integrated Windows CE drivers, so that customers can easily integrate these extra capabilities in their final system.

SwiftKit-PX Development System

For development purposes, the SwiftModule sits on the SwiftKit baseboard, which comes complete with an 800 x 480 touch-screen display (other sizes available), and adds Li-ion battery charger and fuel gauge, LVDS and VGA display interfaces. The schematics and layout notes of the SwiftKit-PX are supplied as the starting point for custom baseboard development (or we can take care of that for you if you prefer - usually against a fixed-price quotation).

SwiftLite-PX is also available as a development system option for SwiftModule-PX.
