SwiftModule-4460SwiftModule-4460: Tiny Production Ready Module based on TI OMAP4460

SODIMM module features dual ARM Cortex-A9 cores

SwiftModule-4460SwiftModule-4460 is a tiny, energy-efficient, production-ready system-on-module (SOM) offering enormous processing power thanks to TI’s OMAP 4460 device, with dual ARM Cortex-A9 cores running at up to 1.5GHz. SwiftModule-4460 is supplied with comprehensive production-quality Board Support Packages (BSP) for Linux and Android, and is ready to be designed into your product, minimising development cost and time-to-market.

The module is a 200-pin SODIMM board, measuring just 39mm x 68mm. For development purposes, SwiftModule-4460 plugs into the SwiftLite-4460 breakout board (dimensions 105mm x 120mm) providing a complete development system which runs Android 2.3.6 or Linux 2.6 out of the box.

In production, the SwiftLite baseboard can be replaced with a simple baseboard carrying exactly the connectors required for your product

This means that when you base your product on SwiftModule-4460 the most time-consuming and expensive part of the hardware design is already done for you, as is the equally costly porting of the operating system to the hardware, enabling you to get to market in a matter of weeks.

SwiftLite-4460 development system with touch screenSwiftModule-4460 is powered by a TI OMAP 4460 with dual ARM Cortex-A9 processor running at 1.2 or 1.5GHz, with a DSP-based video co-processor capable of 1080p30 decode and encode at low-power levels and a PowerVR SGX540 graphics engine supporting major standards including Open GL ES and OpenVG. This is one of the most powerful ARM-based devices available today, and is designed by TI to power handheld devices and therefore affords 1W-class power consumption in many applications.

Technical Details

In addition to the OMAP4460 microcontroller, the SwiftModule-4460 includes 512MB (optionally 1GB) of LPDDR2 RAM. Persistent storage is taken care of by a micro-SD socket on the back of the module, which is equipped with 8GB as standard. Battery management and audio is also taken care of on the module, which also contains a USB Hub and Gigabit Ethernet controller. Supported interfaces include USB Host and OTG, 10/100 Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, UART, HDMI, camera, audio, SPI, I2C, GPIO, SD Card, PWM, touch screen, keypad, GPMC and JTAG. In addition, an optional on-module Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n plus Bluetooth combined transceiver is available. The table below provides full details.

Application Support

Additional interfaces such as GPS modules, GPRS/3G modems, analog to digital converters etc. are frequently required to complete your product. To facilitate this we have created a library of reference extensions to the baseboard design, complete with integrated drivers, so that you can easily integrate these extra capabilities into your project.

SwiftLite Baseboard

For development purposes, the SwiftModule-4460 plugs into the SwiftLite-4460 baseboard, to make a complete OMAP4460 development system, which runs Android 2.3 or Linux 2.6 out of the box.

SwiftLite-4460

The main purpose of the baseboard is to provide connectors as shown above, as well as an additional USB hub and SATA controller. The SwiftLite-4460 development system ships with an 800x480 touch screen display as standard. Other displays may be connected via LVDS or HDMI.

SwiftLite Off-the-shelf Production Baseboards

The SwiftLite board used for the development system also provides the basis for a production baseboard, which is suitable for projects where the interface/connector requirements are a subset of those on the standard baseboard. Please contact us for further details
