General Overview

Sophia Systems' Sandgate II Development Board supports the Intel PXA270 Applications Processor. This reference board enables you to develop the software at the same time as the hardware is being developed, greatly reducing your overall system development time. With the Intel PXA270 Applications Processor installed, the Sandgate Development Board includes the peripherals necessary for the development of PDA/Hand-held devices and provides an excellent design base for your actual system.

The CD-ROM included with the board provides a board support package for Windows CE.NET 5.0 and MontaVista Linux. A JTAG port can be used to download programs in FLASH memory or debug code via the serial port on the PC (JFLASH is included). Also, schematics, parts list, CPLD code (source and binary) are all included so development and customisation is easy.

For debugging code, there is both a JTAG port and Samtec connectors for in-circuit emulators. The combination of Sandgate Board and Sophia's EJ-Debug or UniSTAC II/J for PXA27x (JTAG emulators) provides on-chip debugging capability. And UniSTACII for PXA270 (Full ICE) provides In-Circuit debugging. Bundled packages are available to equip complete development seats.

Sandgate II-P WiFi VoIP

The Sandgate II-P is a WiFi VoIP reference design based on the Intel PXA270 processor. This reference board enables you to develop the software at the same time as the hardware is being developed, greatly reducing overall system development time. The design includes all the peripherals necessary for the development of mobile WiFi VoIP devices. The Sandgate II-P DVK's compact size makes for an excellent design base for an actual system.

There is a JTAG port for debugging code and the combination of Sandgate II-P and Sophia's EJ-Debug JTAG emulator, provides on-chip debugging capability.

A wireless LAN module provides 802.11b/g connectivity, and as all Sandgate II family members there are SD and CF card interfaces. Additional special features include a 1.3Mpixel camera; RS232, Ethernet and JTAG via a removable debug board, 2.2" QVGA LCD, and optional expansion kit including keyboard and 3.8" VGA touch screen.

I/O Port

The PXA270 Sandgate Dev Board comes equipped with standard input and output ports. In addition to these, there is a expansion slot that easily extends the address and data bus so future devices can be added or developing products can be tested.

Sophia PXA270 Sandgate Development Board

Local Area Network (LAN): Allows access to a network environment and supports NE2000. It meets CF I/F standards and the Ethernet driver is included.

Universal Serial Bus (USB): Three USB ports are built into the board: USB 2.0 (client), USB 1.1 (client), and USB 1.1 (host). The maximum transfer speed is 480Mbits/s. ActiveSync uses the USB to synchronise with a desktop PC, which allows for transferring data and programs to the development board.

IrDA port: Transfer data via infrared at a speed of 115.2Kb/s. This is a common way to exchange data with other PDA's or desktop PC, and convenient because it is wireless. ActiveSync supports IrDA.

Serial comm port: The most widely used protocol for communicating with other devices. This can be used for Modems, Keyboards, Mouse, or printers.

Stereo Headphone Jack: Standard Jack used for head phones. PC speakers are also supported.

JTAG port: Used to download programs to system FLASH memory and for JTAG debuggers. A Cable is included that connects a desktop PC serial port. Software is also provided.

Emulator Interface: Full ICE and JTAG

The PXA270 Sandgate II Board is designed to offer several choices for software developers to debug their code. The most powerful and efficient way is via an Emulator that has access to the hardware.

We offer a Full ICE solution (UniSTAC II) which can connect to the target board using the Samtec connectors already mounted on the board. The Full In-Circuit Emulator (ICE) has the unique ability to read the entire CPU bus, which allows for powerful analysis of what is really going on at the hardware level.

In addition, we offer 2 JTAG solutions (UniSTAC II/J and EJ-Debug). Both JTAG debuggers connect to the JTAG port built into the Development board.
