Sophia Systems' Sandgate 3 Reference Design supports Marvell's (formerly Intel's) new PXA320 (codenamed Monahans) applications processor, based on third generation Intel XScale architecture. The kit includes a full-featured development board, with touch screen VGA display, as well as full schematics and BSP source code, enabling you to develop the software at the same time as the hardware, greatly reducing your overall system development time. With the PXA320 processor installed, the Sandgate 3 reference design includes all the peripherals necessary for the development of handheld devices and provides an excellent design base for your actual system.

The Sandgate 3 supports Windows CE 5.0, with optional CE 6.0 & Linux board support packages (BSP) available.

For writing to Flash, a limited version of the EJ-Writer is included as part of of the development kit. This allows for high-speed and stable downloading to the NAND Flash embedded on the Sandgate 3 board.

  • Processors: Monahans, Power Management IC, optional WLAN Module (802.11a/b/g)
  • Memory & HDD: 64 Mbytes NAND Flash, 128 Mbytes SDRAM, IDE connector for HDD
  • BUS: Expansion Bus accesses the signals of the PXA320 processor
  • Audio: Audio Jack (IN/OUT), Audio CODEC, Headset Jack
  • Sockets & I/O: SD/SDIO slot, CF slot, IrDA, RS-232C, IDE/USB2.0 (host) controller, USB 2.0 (client), USB 1.1 (client), USB 1.1 (host), Ethernet port (10/100Base-T), Composite/S-Video in/out connector, and JTAG connector
  • Headers & Keypad: Bluetooth interface header, Camera interface header, 15 programmable buttons
  • LCD: touch panel (640 x 480)

Solution Sets
The power of the Sandgate 3 reference design is unleashed in combination with Sophia's complete debugging solutions available from Direct Insight. From compilers and debuggers to Flash Writers and JTAG emulators. The solution sets provide all the tools needed to get your project developed, debugged and products out the door faster. For debugging code, there is a JTAG port and the combination of Sandgate 3 board and Sophia's EJ-Debug JTAG emulator for PXA320 provides on-chip debugging capability.
