TRITON, Direct InisghtTRITON - TX6 module based on Freescale i.MX6

Tiny Production Quality System on Module with quad or dual-core ARM Cortex-A9

TRITON-TX6 is a family of tiny 68mm x 31mm SODIMM system-on-modules based on Freescale's iMX6 Quad and i.MX6 Dual Lite processor. The TRITON-TX6 is based on the i.MX6 Quad featuring a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor running at  1GHz, while the TRITON-TX6DL features the reduced specification i.MX6 Dual Lite processor with dual-core Arm Cortex-A9. Both modules come with 1024MB of 64-bit DDR3-1066 RAM. Dedicated multimedia codecs handle video at up to 1080p. Dual capacitive and resistive touch screen displays are supported, and the i.MX6 module offers dual LVDS as well as parallel RGB outputs. In addition, the i.MX6 provides a wide range of connectivity including PCI Express and SATA as well as two high speed OTG-capable USB 2.0 ports, dual camera and dual CAN interfaces. TRITON-TX6 comes with Linux 3.x and Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Compact 2013 BSPs (TBA). The Linux BSP provides verified support for Qt Embedded v 4/5 and X11. An Android 4.0 package is also available for this module. Bootable persistent storage is provided in the form of a 128MB NAND Flash, or optionally an 8GB eMMC SSD.

The i.MX6 based TRITON-TX6 takes a single 3.0 to 5.5v supply and provides an up to 1A 3.3V power output for use on the baseboard.

The TRITON-TX6 brings smartphone and tablet user interface performance to the embedded user, in a range of applications including medical devices, digital signage, and industrial multimedia products, thanks to the GPU-accelerated quad ARM Cortex-A9 and NEON SIMD coprocessors.

Reducing your time to market
For development purposes, the TRITON-TX6 module plugs into a StarterKit-5 baseboard which is common to all TRITON-TX ARM-based modules, and powers up running Windows Embedded Compact 7 (CE 7), or Linux 3.x. The StarterKit allows you to begin application development immediately on a platform which is actually a superset of your final production hardware and software. A simple custom baseboard derived from the StarterKit design is then created to suit your application. The production quality Board Support Package (BSP), for either Linux or Windows CE is configured accordingly, the module is plugged in, and the production platform is complete.

Ready-made baseboards, suitable for applications needing the most commonly used interfaces are available such as TRITON-TXFB and TRITON-TXCT. A low-cost evaluation kit is also available for TRITON-TX6 (TXEK i.MX6 evaluation kit).

Longevity and Pin-Compatibility
Guaranteed lifetime is a key reason to choose TRITON family products, some of which have already been shipping for over 10 years. Most of the TRITON-TX modules feature a 10-year-plus lifetime. Furthermore, suitable baseboard designs can take all the modules from this family, including those based on i.MX25, i.MX27, i.MX28, i.MX51, i.MX53, and i.MX6. Pin-compatibility means that older modules can be replaced by the latest designs, with new features, better price-performance, and renewed longevity.

StarterKit-5 Development System
The StarterKit-5 provides a complete development environment based on TRITON-TX6Q, running Linux or Windows Embedded Compact 7 or Linux out-of-the-box. The whole system can be powered via the USB on-the-go port, or optionally via an external 5v supply (not provided). Power may also be provided via a Li-Ion/Polymer 3.0 - 4.2v battery.

The development system consists of a baseboard which provides connectors for all the module interfaces, and includes additional peripherals such as audio codec & touchscreen controller and video DAC. An external resistive or capacitive touch screen is optionally supplied, with full BSP support - and connects either via the 40-pin LCD header as shown or via a special adapter where the module version offering SATA and LVDS display is used. A dedicated 4-wire resistive touch output is provided as well as I2C port for capacitive touch. A range of capacitive and resistive touch panels are available to purchase with StarterKit-5, and are fully supported.

For production purposes, you will require a custom baseboard, and we are happy to offer baseboard design and manufacture as a service. Another option is to use the production-ready TRITON-TXFB baseboard, which offers the possibility of an entirely off-the-shelf hardware solution.
