TRITON, Direct InisghtTRITON - TX53 module with Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Linux 3.0

TRITON-TX53 SODIMM module with i.MX535, Windows Compact 7, Android
Production Quality System on Module with Freescale i.MX53 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A8

TRITON-TX53 is a 68mm x 31mm SODIMM system-on-module with Freescale's powerful iMX53 multimedia processor featuring 800MHz to 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 core, and dedicated multimedia codecs, capable of decoding 1080p video at 30fps, or encoding 720p video. The i.MX53 also provides two camera ports and two display outputs with optional LVDS encoding. In addition, the i.MX53 has an enhanced graphics system with boosted performance OpenGL ES 2.0, on-chip Ethernet with IEEE1588 capability, as well as a wide range of connectivity including two high speed USB 2.0 Host ports, USB OTG, and dual CAN interfaces (i.MX537 only). TRITON-TX53 comes with Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Linux 3.0.

The TRITON-TX53 features 512MB to 2GB of high performance 667MHz DDR3 RAM and 128MB NAND Flash, as well as power management, real-time clock and Ethernet and USB PHY provision. The module takes a single 3.0 to 5.5v supply and provides up to 1A output current 1.8V and 3.3V power outputs for use on the baseboard.

The TRITON-TX53 is suited to a wide range of demanding tasks, including high end user interfaces, digital signage, and handheld multimedia devices, thanks to the i.MX53’s improved graphics processing unit and video codecs. as well as the ARM Cortex-A8 processor's integrated NEON Floating Point unit. Graphics applications are accelerated by two dedicated accelerators – a Z160 2D core providing OpenVG 1.0 support and a Z430 3D subsystem providing OpenGL ES 2.0 capability, which enables specialist UI environments such as Microsoft Silverlight for Embedded and Adobe Flash Lite to be used with excellent results. Security, medical and industrial projects will find many uses for these capabilities.

Reducing your time to market
For development purposes, the TRITON TX53 module plugs into a StarterKit-5 baseboard, and powers up running Windows Embedded Compact 7 (CE 7), or Linux 3.0. The StarterKit allows you to begin application development immediately on a platform which is actually a superset of your final production hardware and software. A simple custom baseboard derived from the StarterKit design is then created to suit your application. The production quality Board Support Package (BSP), for either Linux 3.0 or Windows Embedded Compact 7 which supplied as part of the package is rebuilt accordingly, the module is plugged in, and the production platform is complete. The custom baseboard can be designed by you, or by our services group, but by keeping the high-speed multilayer electronics on the module, this task is made relatively inexpensive and quick.

Longevity and Pin-Compatibility
Guaranteed lifetime is a key reason to choose TRITON family products, some of which have already been shipping for over 10 years. For our i.MX based products longevity guarantees are underwritten my Freescale, who offer 10 to 15 year minimum lifetimes for the i.MX ARM-based range. We expect to shadow the Freescale lifetimes and additionally offer our customers a contractual 7-year longevity guarantee for TRITON-TX-modules. Further security is provided by the pin-compatible nature of the range, which means that suitable baseboard designs can take all the modules from this family, including those based on i.MX25, i.MX27, i.MX28, i.MX51 and i.MX53, and allows older modules to be replaced by the latest designs, with new features, better price-performance, and renewed longevity.

The widest range of Interfaces
The TRITON TX53 module provides an extensive range of interfaces - most of which are based on the iMX53's built in hardware. As well as UARTs, Ethernet 10/100 with IEEE1588, SPI, SSP, I2C, CAN (i.MX537 only), I2S, USB 2.0 OTG and Host (x2), 24-bit LCD, TV out, and SD Card are provided.
