Production Quality System on Module with Freescale i.MX53 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A8

TRITON-TX53 SODIMM module with i.MX535, Windows Compact 7, AndroidTRITON-TX53 is a 68mm x 31mm SODIMM system-on-module with Freescale's powerful iMX53 multimedia processor featuring 800MHz to 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 core, and dedicated multimedia codecs, capable of decoding 1080p video at 30fps, or encoding 720p video. Both capacitive and resistive touch screen displays are supported, and the i.MX53 offers dual LVDS as well as parallel RGB outputs. In addition, the i.MX53 provides an enhanced graphics system with OpenGL ES 2.0, as well as a wide range of connectivity including two high speed USB 2.0 Host ports, USB OTG, and dual CAN interfaces (i.MX537 only). TRITON-TX53 comes with Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Linux 3.x BSPs. An Android 2.3 BSP is also available for TRITON-TX53. Industrial temperature range support is standard on the entry-level i.MX537-based module.

The TRITON-TX53 offers 512MB to 2GB of high performance 800MHz DDR3 RAM and 128MB NAND Flash. The module takes a single 3.0 to 5.5v supply and provides up to 1A output current 1.8V and 3.3V power outputs for use on the baseboard.

The TRITON-TX53 is suited to a wide range of demanding tasks, including high end user interfaces, digital signage, and industrial multimedia devices, thanks to the i.MX53’s GPU and video codecs. High-end touch and gesture based HMIs can be achieved using tools such as Microsoft Silverlight for Embedded, Adobe Flash Lite and Qt, thanks to the GPU-accelerated ARM Cortex-A8 processor.

Reducing your time to market
For development purposes, the TRITON-TX53 module plugs into a StarterKit-5 baseboard which is common to all TRITON-TX ARM-based modules, and powers up running Windows Embedded Compact 7 (CE 7), or Linux 3.x. The StarterKit allows you to begin application development immediately on a platform which is actually a superset of your final production hardware and software. A simple custom baseboard derived from the StarterKit design is then created to suit your application. The production quality Board Support Package (BSP), for either Linux or Windows CE is configured accordingly, the module is plugged in, and the production platform is complete.

Longevity and Pin-Compatibility
Guaranteed lifetime is a key reason to choose TRITON family products, some of which have already been shipping for over 10 years. Most of the TRITON-TX modules feature a 10-year-plus lifetime. Furthermore, suitable baseboard designs can take all the modules from this family, including those based on i.MX25, i.MX27, i.MX28, i.MX51 and i.MX53. Pin-compatibility means that older modules can be replaced by the latest designs, with new features, better price-performance, and renewed longevity.

StarterKit-5 Development System
The StarterKit-5 provides a complete development environment based on TRITON-TX53, running, Windows Embedded Compact 7 or Linux 3.x out-of-the-box. The whole system can be powered via the USB on-the-go port, or optionally via an external 5v supply (not provided). Power may also be provided via a Li-Ion/Polymer 3.0 - 4.2v battery.

The development system consists of a baseboard which provides connectors for all the module interfaces, and includes additional peripherals such as audio codec & touchscreen controller and video DAC. An external resistive or capacitive touch screen is optionally supplied, with full BSP support - and connects either via the 40-pin LCD header as shown or via a special adapter where the module version offering SATA and LVDS display is used. A dedicated 4-wire resistive touch output is provided as well as I2C port for capacitive touch. A range of capacitive and resistive touch panels are available to purchase with StarterKit-5, and are fully supported.

For production purposes, you will require a custom baseboard, and we are happy to offer baseboard design and manufacture as a service.
