Production-quality system-on-module (SOM) based on 454MHz Freescale i.MX28 TRITON-TX28 is a low-cost high performance ARM9-based module based on Freescale's iMX28 microcontroller, implemented on a board with form-factor smaller than a credit card (68mm x 26mm), and ready to be incorporated into your low or medium volume product manufacture or prototype. As well as a high performance 454MHz i.MX28 processor, the TRITON-TX28 modules features 128MB of high bandwidth DDR2-400 RAM, and 128MB NAND Flash, and comes complete with a StarterKit development baseboard, and a production quality implementation of Windows CE 6.0 and Linux 3.x. |
The |
TRITON-TX28 includes a comprehensive set of peripherals and interfaces. These include USB 2.0 Host and OTG, two 10/100 Ethernet ports which are IEEE1588 capable, SD Card, UARTs, LCD controller, keypad controller, I2C, I2S, AC'97, SPI, CAN and GPIO. In addition there are 8 analog inputs (5 are used for touch).
The industrial temperature grade TRITON-TX28 also provides the base for our lowest-priced module, the TRITON-TX28S, which is a commercial temperature grade version of the module, with 64MB RAM, single Ethernet controller, and other specification differences.
Mainline Linux, Comprehensive Windows CE 6.0
Linux support for TRITON-TX28 is provided by a mainline ARM-Linux BSP, which means that support is maintained at the latest embedded Linux version, which allows users to leverage support and application compatibility from the open-source community.
TRITON-TX28 also features a particularly comprehensive Windows CE 6.0 BSP which includes support for power-saving measures such as suspend/resume, dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS), as well as the i.MX28's dual Ethernet capability.
Reducing your time to market
For development purposes, the TRITON TX28 module plugs into a StarterKit-5 baseboard, and powers up running Windows CE 6.0 or Linux 3.x. The StarterKit allows you to begin application development immediately on a platform which is actually a superset of your final production hardware and software. A simple custom baseboard derived from the StarterKit design is then created to suit your application. The production quality Board Support Package (BSP) which is supplied as part of the package is rebuilt accordingly, the module is plugged in, and the production platform is complete. The custom baseboard can be designed by you, or by our services group, but by keeping the high-speed multilayer electronics on the module, this task is made relatively inexpensive and quick.
Longevity and Pin-Compatibility
Guaranteed lifetime is a key reason to choose TRITON family products, some of which have already been shipping for over 10 years. For our i.MX based products longevity guarantees are underwritten my Freescale, who offer 10 to 15 year minimum lifetimes for the i.MX ARM-based range. We expect to shadow the Freescale lifetimes and additionally offer our customers a contractual 7-year longevity guarantee for TRITON-TX-modules. Further security is provided by the pin-compatible nature of the range, which means that suitable baseboard designs can take all the modules from this family, including those based on i.MX25, i.MX27, i.MX28, i.MX51 and i.MX53, and allows older modules to be replaced by the latest designs, with new features, better price-performance, and renewed longevity.
The widest range of Interfaces
Thanks to the broad connectivity of the i.MX28 microcontroller, the TRITON TX28 module provides an extensive range of interfaces . As well as RS-232, Ethernet, SPI, SSP, I2C, I2S, AC'97, USB 2.0 OTG and Host, and SD Card are provided. TX28 also provides a dual CAN interface. The LCD controller supports resolutions up to 800 x 480.
The table below shows the resources available from the complete development system, and whether those resources are provided in hardware by the microcontroller, or by additional circuitry on the module or development baseboard:
