PXA255 module has advanced power-management features
The world's tiniest XScale module - the TRITON XXS - is now available from Direct Insight.
Measuring just 32mm x 59mm x 6.6mm, the module is based on the Intel
PXA255 processor which combines high performance with the low-power capability
required by battery-powered applications. The TRITON module is also unique
in its implementation of programmable core power, which means that the
core operating
voltage can be varied between 0.9 and 1.5v in order to save power, making the most of the PXA255's built-in power management scheme.
The TRITON XXS provides 64Mbyte of low-power mobile SDRAM, and 32MB Flash. The built-in LCD controller allows direct connection of a display, and a PCMCIA interface, along with a 200-pin surface mount connector facilitates connection to other systems.
Other interfaces include four fast serial interfaces (up to 4Mbps), SPI, and I2S and AC'97 audio. The unit is manufactured in Germany by PXA255 engineering and manufacturing specialist KaRo Electronics GmbH.
For development purposes, the TRITON XXS plugs into the StarterKit II, a standard motherboard which runs Linux, and optionally Windows CE.NET, out of the box. Complete development systems including software and debug hardware are available from the XScale specialist, who also offer custom base-board design services.
The Triton XXS is available immediately from Direct Insight, priced around £200, depending on quantity.
