Direct Insight introduces the new SwiftModule low-power high performance system-on-module

We are excited to announce SwiftModule, our latest production-ready module for high-performance yet cost-sensitive applications based on Windows CE.

Measuring just 6cm x 4cm, and consuming under 1W in most applications, SwiftModule is supplied with a comprehensive production-quality Board Support Package (BSP) for Windows CE 6.0.

Innovative hardware and software features aim to make it as easy as possible to design in the new module. As well as up to 256MB of DDR SDRAM and 1GB of NAND Flash, the Swiftmodule provides Ethernet and optional Audio plus 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, so that these frequently-needed interfaces do not have to be added on the baseboard.

The PXA320 microcontroller, running at up to 806MHz, provides a broad range of integrated interfaces and communications ports including USB device and host, UART, SSP, 1-Wire, I2C, SD Card and CompactFlash, all of which can be accessed from the application level via the Windows CE OS.

Special software features include automatic power management which steps down core voltage and clock frequency based on detected demand. A BinFS file system ensures rapid system boot, and a user-defined splashscreen eases customisation.

For development purposes, the SwiftModule plugs into the SwiftKit development system which includes a 7" 800x480 touch-screen display, connectors for USB, Ethernet, SDCard, CF and JTAG and hosts a range of additional capabilities including Li-ion battery support, LVDS and VGA output.

Integration of the SwiftModule SBC requires no more than the adoption of a suitable baseboard with the required connectors. This may be a simple custom design done by us or by you, or for low volume requirements you may find a close match to your spec. in one of our SwiftLite baseboard range.
