Complete Development Kit for Intel's latest XScale

The Sophia SandGate II reference board for PXA270 is now shipping, complete with Windows CE.NET 5.0 BSP, MontaVista Linux Preview Kit, and a full range of toolchain options including Intel's own development tools, and Sophia's E-J Debug JTAG interface.

SandGate II is a comprehensive PXA270-based design and includes an integrated 640 x 480 256K colour TFT touch-screen display. As well as providing connectors for the wide range of on-chip peripherals such as USB Device and Host, SD/Memory Stick, LCD controller, SPI, RS232 and CompactFlash, the SandGate II adds 64 or 128MB SDRAM and 64MB Flash, and a range of other peripherals including 100MBit Ethernet, AC'97 Audio Codec, and power management.

The PXA270, which features the Wireless MMX instruction set extensions, is supported by Intel's own Software Development Toolsuite for XScale including the XDB debugger. This is complemented by optional JTAG emulation allowing comprehensive debug facilities for hardware and driver development. Even more powerful debugging is available by connecting up Sophia's Unistac II Full-ICE to the SandGate II's ICE connectors.

Because SandGate II is designed as a reference platform, it includes full PDF schematics and bill-of-materials. The Windows CE.NET BSP source code and CPLD source files are also supplied to customers.

SandGate II is now available from local stock, via Direct Insight's online shop. A version of the board containing the 2700G multimedia co-processor is also planned for this Quarter.
