Altium's Nexar FPGA toolset integrates embedded processors
Toolset includes NanoBoard prototyping system
Nexar is a comprehensive, vendor independent design solution for FPGAs
that allows engineers to build a complete processor-based system.
Nexar integrates hardware design tools, C and assembler based embedded
software development tools; ready-to-use, pre-synthesized FPGA-targeted
components; virtual instrumentation, and a reconfigurable hardware platform
- the NanoBoard - to allow engineers to interactively design and implement
an embedded system within an FPGA.
Although Nexar includes a complete mixed VHDL and schematic design flow,
an emphasis on ready-made components - in the form of an extensive library
of ready-to-use, pre-synthesized IP, including processor cores, high level
devices such as VGA and CAN controllers, as well as a complete array of
peripheral and logic components - opens up FPGA design to schematic-oriented
designers and systems engineers. The supplied processor cores include
an 8051 with compact OSEK/VDX RTOS, a Z80 and a PIC165.
Nexar integrates industry standard embedded software development tools
to provide a complete solution for the development and debug of embedded
code running on the supplied soft processor cores inside the FPGA. Vendor
place-and-route tools are also fully integrated within the design flow.
The NanoBoard development board is interfaced to the Nexar system via
JTAG. As well as a plug-in modular target FPGA, this board includes a
range of interfaces including RS232, CAN, VGA, LCD, keypad and ADC/DAC.
Nexar's range of IP also includes provides instruments including logic
analyzers, frequency generators, counters and IO modules. These are implemented
on the target device and are interfaced dynamically via the JTAG connection
between NanoBoard and host. Multiple NanoBoards can be chained together
to support multiple FPGA devices.
