Development kit for Intel's new MID processor
We're pleased to announce Sophia Peartree, a development platform for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) based on the Intel Atom processor family – previously known as Silverthorne/Menlow.
The Peartree is a MID (Mobile Internet Device) format development platform is based on one of the Intel Atom processors (previously codenamed Silverthorne) and the Intel System controller Hub (previously codenamed Poulsbo). Peartree will initially ship with either Microsoft Windows Vista or Linux BSPs. The development platform is equipped with a Wi-Fi module and W-SIM (with connectable 3G module). Additionally, dual mode device development is possible by using Wi-Fi under wireless LAN services and 3G/PHS for external handheld communications. The development platform is equipped with a 5.0" WSVGA/TFT, 1SEG-TV module, camera module and 4Gbyte SSD for entertainment devices, and also supports Bluetooth, and USB2.0. In addition, PEARTREE includes an expansion board to facilitate development and debugging. The expansion board has hardware expansion connectors including Ethernet, USB Host, GPS, HDD, and debug interface.
An engineer can develop hardware and software concurrently by using this platform, and will be able to save time in the validation process. As a result, it will be possible to create portable devices with a shorter development time, higher quality and superior cost performance.
We are now accepting orders for Peartree, and shipments will begin on a first-come first-served basis in June 2008.
